Admissions for Those who come from Overseas

Those who wish to enroll in the Department of Japanese, Department of Advanced Studies in Japanese and Department of Business Japanese require "College Student Visa" application procedures. Those who wish to enroll in 1-month or 3-month short-term Japanese courses can enter Japan with a visa status of "Temporary Visitor." For details, please check with the nearest Japanese diplomatic mission abroad.

Applicant Qualifications

It is preferable that the application is within 5 years of graduation from the last school or institution.

Department of Japanese Formal school education of no less than 12 years or 4-year College graduate from a foreign country. Please ask for details before applying.
Department of Advanced Studies in Japanese In addition to the aforementioned, Japanese ability equivalent to Level 2 in the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test is required.

※The school cannot bear any responsibility for the failure in meeting the deadline for visa-application due to flaws in the submitted documents.
※When the number of applicants reaches the full quota, no more applicants will be accepted.

  • When making a correction in the description, cross out the unnecessary words with double lines and put a name stamp or sign there to show that a correction has been made willingly. Please do not use correction fluid (whiteout).

  • Curriculum Vitae (CBC-designated form) The applicant must fill this out by himself/herself.
  • 6 photographs of the applicant taken within 6 months of application (3x4cm)
    ※Write the name, date of birth and nationality on the back of each picture with a black ballpoint pen.
  • A certificate of graduation or certificate of completion from the most-recent institution attended (No photocopy acceptable)
  • A certificate of expected graduation if the applicant is a student at present (No photocopy acceptable)
  • Transcripts of all the classes taken at the above institution(s) (No photocopy acceptable)
  • Proof of employment past and present if the applicant has any (Must be typed)
  • Proof of learning Japanese
    Result report of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test may be requested.
  • Copy of the passport (if the applicant has one)
    ※The page with the picture, the passport number and the name of the applicant
    ※The page(s) with the stamp of Japanese Immigration (if the applicant has been to Japan before)

The person responsible for paying expenses
It is preferable that the person responsible for paying expenses to be the applicant's parent or a relative in the second degree (a grandparent or a sibling). Please follow either "A. The person responsible for paying expenses is living in Japan"; or "B. The person responsible for paying expenses is living outside Japan."

A.The person responsible for paying expenses is living in Japan
The person must be financially and socially responsible for the applicant.

【Documents that will be required 】

  • Affidavit to the president of CBC and agreement (CBC-designated form) bearing the name stamp of the person responsible
    *The person responsible must fill this out by himself/herself.
  • Payment of Expense (CBC-designated form) bearing the name stamp of the person responsible
    *The person responsible must fill this out by himself/herself.
  • Certificate of employment of the person responsible
    This must be an original made by the employer or an equivalent. If self-employed, a photocopy of income tax return (Aoiro-shinkoku or Shiroiro-shinkoku) certifiable on the production of the original. If being a chief-executive officer of a company, a full copy of the company registration (Toukibo-touhon).
  • Proof of the ability to finance the applicant's tuition and all the expenses
    Proof of Tax Payment (Nouzei-Shoumeisyo) 1 and 2 issued by a tax office
    OR
    An original of the Proof of Local Taxation (Juuminzei Kazei Shoumeisyo) bearing the gross annual income
  • Photocopy of the Residence Card (Juuminhyou) bearing all the members of the household
    In case of the person being a foreign resident, a Certificate of Registration (Touroku Genpyou Kisai Jikou Shoumeisyo).
  • Proof of the balance of the bank under the name of the person responsible for paying expenses. Copies of the page with the account number and the pages showing withdrawals and deposits may be requested.
  • The official document to prove the relationship between the applicant and the person responsible

B. The person responsible for paying expenses is living outside Japan
Depending on nationality, a person who is living in Japan and socially responsible for the applicant may be required.

The applicant is able to come to Japan only when CESR (Certificate of Eligibility to a Status of Residence) is issued by immigration authorities. (It is not possible only with the Admission Permit from CBC.)

Application Requirements
  1. 12 years of formal education.
  2. One of the following conditions
    • Having studied at a Japanese-language school in Japan more than 6 months continuously with 85% or more attendance rate
    • Passed N2 or higher level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent academic ability.

  2. Affidavit to the president of CBC (CBC-designated form)
  3. Graduation or completion certificate and official transcript from most recent academic institution attended (No photocopy acceptable)
  4. Completion certificate, official transcript and attendance rate certificate from Japanese-language school in Japan (※ 1)
  5. Recommendation letter from the Japanese-language school attended in Japan (※ 1)
  6. 6 photos (3x4 cm) (One photo should be affixed to the Curriculum Vitae.)
  7. Copy of certificate of Japanese-Language Proficiency Test 2 or N2(※ 2)
  8. Copy of passport (copy of the passport pages showing your photo, name and immigration stamp for Japan)
  9. Copy of Residence Card (both front and back sides)(※3)
  10. Certificate of bank balance under the name of financial sponsor
